Aboul Gheit reviews the developments of the Palestinian issue with the Cypriot Foreign Minister

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received today, Sunday, the Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, who is currently on a visit to Cairo.

An official source at the League’s General Secretariat stated that Aboul Gheit welcomed at the outset of the meeting the distinguished relations between the Arab League and Cyprus, and expressed his aspiration to develop them in all fields within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides.

The meeting also witnessed a review of the overall developments on the regional and international arenas, especially the developments of the Palestinian issue, where Aboul Gheit renewed welcoming the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and praised the Arab and Egyptian efforts in particular to reach this agreement. In this regard, it was emphasized that the renewed confrontations in the occupied territories proved beyond any doubt the importance of reaching a final settlement to this conflict that would lead to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In terms of developments in both Syria and Libya, the meeting witnessed the affirmation of the Arab League’s position on the need to support political settlement tracks in the two countries in a manner that preserves Syria’s unity, independence and Arabism and allows Libya to reach an integrated and purely national settlement with the exit of all foreign forces and mercenaries from all its lands.
