What are the main causes of migraine headaches in women?

Migraines cause pain on one side of the head, nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last from hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with your daily activities.

There may be different causes of migraines, and there may be changes in the brain stem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve, a major pain pathway, and this may lead to an imbalance of chemicals in the brain including serotonin, which helps regulate pain. In the nervous system, other neurotransmitters play a role in migraine pain.

Migraine causes

There are a number of migraine triggers, including:

1: Hormonal changes in women: Fluctuations in estrogen, such as before or during menstrual periods, pregnancy and menopause, lead to headaches in many women.

2: Hormonal medications: Like contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, they can also exacerbate migraines. However, some women find that migraines occur less frequently when taking these medications.

3: Caffeine drinks such as coffee.

4: Stress: Stress at work or at home can cause migraines.

5: Lack of sleep, getting too much sleep, or jet lag can trigger migraines in some people.

6: Vigorous physical exertion may trigger a migraine.

7: Climate changes, changing the weather or atmospheric pressure can trigger a migraine.

8: Medications: Contraceptives and vasodilators can exacerbate migraines.

9: Sensory stimuli: Bright lights and glare from the sun can trigger a migraine.
